This desktop at work was brand new when I started here 18 months ago. It's a Dell desktop something. When I leave every day, I turn off the monitor and the passworded screensaver kicks in. In the morning, I turn on the monitor, put in the password and I'm back in biz. Last week one the of the forced updates turned on the powersaver hibernation thing. Really annoying. I came in and turned the monitor on to learn I was in some kind of power saving mode. Blech. I did not know how to wake it up so I had to power off and then power on. I found the hibernation bit in the power section of the control panel and turned it off.

This morning, I got the same damn thing. Power button blinking amber. No way to wake the damn thing up. I hate to power off and power on. It makes me cranky. I can't find any where that is tweaked to make it do this and I can't figure out how to wake it up without turning it off and back on again. It's not nice to make me cranky in the morning.

I realized last night that Netflix never sent me a replacement for the DVD I sent in a week ago. First time that's happened. Not fatal, but glad I remembered before it got too far down the road.

I would love to find a supplier for bulk ordering of teddy bear stuffing. I thought I had one. I ordered. They charged my credit card. Their website is a little 'my 12 year old can build us all the website we need' and their ordering system leaves a lot to be desired. But, after I ordered, I sent an email asking for a tracking number and got a fast response. Dave said that he could not supply the tracking number as the shipment was coming direct from the factory but that I should receive my 10 pound bag by the middle of the week. That was last week and Old Dave is no longer answering any emails. Fuck.

And I cannot find another supplier. I want a bulk order - 10 pounds at least - delivered. Bonus points if it comes in under $.40 an ounce. Making these damn bears is the easy part. Gathering the bits is turning out to be a bitch.

1 lousy strike away from sealing the deal and the St. Louis Cardinals came up with a Not So Fast There, Buster. So we have another game on Wednesday. S'ok, at least I have tonight so I can get maybe one Numb3rs in and possibly last week's ER.

My brother sent me and Mom and long and detailed email about his adventures in starting his new business. He sounds so jazzed and so optimistic and positive. I'm so thrilled for him. Daddy would have been so proud but then if he were still alive maybe Bill would not have had the nerve to even try so I guess I'm hoping that somewhere, somehow Daddy knows that his boy is doing him proud.

These are a few of the things I learned today in the ever growing list of sites I check often:

I've noticed lately that old people are getting way younger. My friend, Jon's Pensito Review reported that Jesse Helms turns 84 today. Ok, see, for as long as I can remember, Jess Helms has been older than dirt. And now, after all these years, he's only 84?! Do we have another Strom Thurmond in the works? Ugh.

The Seattlest today reports that in my neighborhood - Pioneer Square - someone gets beat up every day. Nice. I've never even been looked at funny. I think I'm being dissed.

This woman - Jessica Hutchison - knits the coolest stuff I've seen in quite a while.

I am a good searcher. Generally, I can make Google find what I want. But, sometimes, just sometimes, I think maybe I might be kidding myself. If it's not in the search results is it really not there? Will everyone not here please raise your hand? I do not like the format of this particular blog BUT, sometimes it just has good stuff like this article on search tips... I had no idea I could google weather 98104 and get pretty little weather pictures.

And, finally, my latest online toy - Remember The Milk.

I just saw on the news that a damn in Taunton, MA could break and flood the town.  My brother's first wife - Uno - lives there!!  Just as NBC is telling me this, I get a note from Mom saying she called Uno to make sure she was ok.  She is.  She is packed and ready to split if/when officials give the word but she says she lives higher than downtown so she may be ok.

We also call his current wife (#3) Trey.  They both love their nicknames which I think is such fun. We've lost track of Duo.  No one liked her except me.  I thought she was beautiful and incredibly smart (except about husbands) and I often think about her and hope she has had a much better life since she and my brother split.
