There was no one in the pool when I got there this morning. I was about 15 minutes into my swim when I noticed someone had started in the next lane. As I got closer I saw that it was one of the regulars from the West Seattle gym. He and I used to overlap at the pool nearly every day for a while but I hadn't seen him in months. We stopped and chatted for a bit. He said no one told him the heater was broken and he hopped in like normal and got quite the shock. He said he lasted one lap. He also reported that they said the pool would be fixed on Saturday ("They said a couple of days" - riiiiiight.) It was fun to see him. I actually have been surprised that I haven't seen more refugees from West Seattle. There is another LA Fitness south of West Seattle (I'm north) so maybe they all went there.

I have a blood bruise of unknown origin on my hand. I've been wearing my gloves to swim so probably it happened while I slept. It's not a bad one but it's been a long time since I've had any. A nice, long time. So many things about getting/being old are a shock. My hands - my wrinkly old lady hands - still shock me at least once a day. When they hell did they start looking like that????

My Kiwi friend, Scott, sends me a beautiful wall calendar every year from Central Ortego in New Zeland. It's such fun to see snow pictures in July. This year he marked on July 4, that my visitors will be arriving. Ha! He and his wife are coming this year. Fun to have my calendar pre-marked. Even after all these years (I think he's been sending me calendars now for at least 15-20 years, I still marvel at the number of holidays that make the calendar.

If you are in New Zealand, you get New Year's Day off. And the day after New Year's Day and the day after the day after New Year's Day. Way to start a nice year of holidays!

I may make a trip to Grocery Outlet today to check their avocado situation. They had tiny ones at QFC yesterday for $2 each. Er ah no thanks. I may to at lunch time and snag some lunch on the trip. Otherwise, it will be a sewing day. I'm inspired by the new fabrics.

I have not spent a lot of time in traffic this week - to and from the pool which is a little more than 5 miles from here and then on a couple of errands. There has been so little traffic that it's shocking. I turned a corner yesterday and where there is normally a traffic jam anytime of day or night, there were not even any cars. At 11 am.

But, all afternoon today, Google has been telling me that there is heavier than traffic nearby. I don't know whether Google is losing its mind or maybe everyone all of a sudden jumped in their cars. Weird.

I did go out about 11 and they weren't out then. I made a quick trip to Grocery Outlet. Avocados were 4 for $5. Not great but better than $2 or $2.50 each.

And then I sewed. A while back someone left some knit lounging pants on the free shelf in the garage. There were in good shape and nice knit is hard to find so I grabbed them. I have now used one cuff to make a credit card holder. Sadly, it was in the purse that got stolen. At least I have another cuff so I can make another. The waste had a lovey purple ribbon tie belt. This first doll is now sporting one tail end of it. I love reuse.

I wrote to my swim buddy, Barrie, last night that I was done calling the pool for updates. I asked her if she heard anything to let me know.

I wrote to LA Fitness corporate and explained the issue of a month long broken heater and lame excuses.

This is the response I got from corporate:

Dear Susan,

I understand why you are upset. We want to provide the best club possible for our members. I have given the details to the District Operations Manager so he can look into it.

Sincerely,

Joe

And this is what Barrie sent me just now:

Checked this AM & didn't get much information. Just called again-said the pool man would be in Saturday, & the pool should be swimming temperature by Monday. I will check again tomorrow evening to see if the news is the same.

Looks like the 2016 Great Pool Heater Debacle is going to spill over into 2017 after all. Really beginning to wonder if we'll see a fix in my lifetime.
