Remapping

My robot vacuum got a firmware update yesterday and it screwed with its brain. When I set it to clean, it just cleaned in a 1 foot diameter circle. A couple of updates ago, they added 'quick remapping' and so that's what I'm doing now and it's kind of amazing. It just came into the living room and in one pass - front to back - got the whole room mapped! In less than a minute! It's been 6 minutes now and it's all the way down at the other end of the house now doing the sewing room. It's very quiet during this process so Biggie is just following it around. This thing was smart when I got it but now I'm thinking I should rename it to Dr. Robby.

Today is closet day. I have a plan for that one closet. My goal is to torpedo half the shit in there. I went to sleep last night thinking of all the stuff in there that I don't need. I'm jazzed.

The really big news is that my brother (bill_schubert) has a plane ticket to come visit me! The second week in July. How fun is that?? The last time he was here was January of 2020 and then the world shut down. I'm not sure there was cause and effect there. But I'm delighted that he's coming back. He usually comes in January so a July visit will be different.

Well, I'm not sure Dr. Robby has his shit together quite yet.

But I need to get dressed and get to work. I'll deal with him later.

Progress

This is a way bigger job than I though it would be.

My problem is Things To Put Things In - here is a partial pile of them that I pulled out of the closet this morning.



This is a variant of the bag hoarding virus I also have but am getting way better about.

I am throwing out shit left and right.

The last time I wore contact lens was about 2012. I just tossed out a packet of them.

But, the winner is... I threw out all my makeup. I should have sent it to the Smithsonian. The last time I wore make up was literally in the last century.

New Rule

From this moment on. Nothing in the Stuff To Hold Stuff category will be saved in this house unless it has a lid. Nothing.

(See the prob with this closet? I can barely get to half the shelves. Note the stuff way in the back? It will live there forever because I cannot get to it. So, since I can't get to it, I have declared that part of the closet Dead to Me. I will not use it. I will only use the part I can get to and see. )

Also new rule. No obstructive stacking. I am allowed to put stuff on top of drawers but, if there is anything I have to remove the lid to get to, will NOT ever have anything put on top of it.

I am not doing this again. My back is killing me. And, I'm not done. But I'm starving and the closet light ran out of battery so needs recharging.

I still have to make at least two trips down to the dumpster. Put the card table back in the hall closet. I have to corral all the remaining vessels and move them outside to the terrace storage. Once I am sure I will not need them for that project, they will get tossed.

But I am already feeling excellent about this.
