More of the same but it's fine

Every morning I check the King County Dashboard and see that more people are sick and more people are dead. This is my directive to stay right here in my safe little condo.

I do need to take trash/garbage/recycling down to the dumpsters today but that's all the farther I need to go. Next week will be different if only because the house cleaner is coming and I need to not be here. But, also because Krispy Kreme is going to up their game next week. All week a vaccination card will get you TWO donuts every day. And one of them shaped like a heart! But, until then, I'll be here.

My groceries showed up about 5:15 yesterday which really wasn't that far outside their original window. It was fine. And now I have new cakes to bake.

So I'll be baking a cake today and, maybe, cookies. My banana is ready. I might freeze it because I don't really need cake AND cookies.

For the past couple of days, I've been pulling biscuits out of the freezer and baking them for breakfast. This was a tip I got from meowmensteen and boy, was it a good one. Freezer to fresh hot biscuit in 20 mins. I then split them open, butter and broil them for another 5. I like crispy. Pop a fried (from my Dash griddle) egg on top and, honestly? It's the best breakfast in town.

And from delicious to disgusting... Last night I lathered up my feet with Aquaphor instead of Cerave because The Aquaphor is so much easier to handle. It's thicker and comes in a tube. The Cerave comes in a tub and is a mess to deal with. BUT, I gotta say, the results are kind of amazing. Cerave by a mile. I hate that because it's so expensive and such a mess to deal with but results, man. Results.

This is what ljtourist texted me the other night and he's so right. The cakes are cooling and the icing is done. Now, next time, I will...

I'm actually still not sure about this time. The cake batter was soupy. I wanted a dense white cake. It's white and it looks dense. We will see. The icing is cream cheese/butter cream and it's not bad but it's not perfection either. Photos to come after assembly.

But, next time...

I also made egg and cheese mashed potatoes. I had four egg yolks left over from the cake. So, why not just make some delicious mashed potatoes with them?! Parmesan and egg yolks and a little milk. Two servings - popped 'em in the freezer.

FYI, Biggie thinks egg whites are delicious!

One.5 fails and 1 very big win

The cake is adorable. I'm quite pleased at my cake assembly skills. And I'm getting better at frosting them.





But the cake itself... we have work to do. This guy would have sent me home for sure. I'm not even sure I baked it long enough. And the frosting is kind of a nothankyou.

But, looks? 10!

So tomorrow will be banana chocolate chip cookies for sure. I've already promised the banana that it will be his turn. He smiled.

But, how's this for a WIN!! I ordered these little socks from Amazon. My one pair that I've been wearing 24/7 needs a wash! Plus, I thought these would be better. Thinner. Not as hot. And I could easily slip my feet into my sandals with them - for going down to get mail, or take trash, etc.

When they arrived, turned out they are very excellent. Just what I hoped and just right. Except. White. I'm not even happy about the white cake, white socks is just asking for trouble. And they only come in white. But, wait... maybe I can reverse engineer...

And, I did!! I cut one up to make a pattern (had I been really bright, I would have made it without having to cut, but I wanted perfection). Then studied how they were put together - which seams went first, etc. And bingo bongo!!
