Today there may be painting
Aug. 28th, 2021 09:08 amMy Mom used to make these wonderful cookies at Christmas. Plain and flat - cut out in shapes. Then she iced and decorated them. But a few, mostly the chicks, she painted bright yellow even before she baked them.
The cookie recipe itself was the mystery. It was not a sugar cookie but it had no strong flavor. My wonderful brother managed to procure the recipe for me last night! Turns out it is flour, butter, sugar, eggs, lemon and cinnamon. How weird! (The icing she used was sugar and egg whites which is why, probably, she had so much yolk for painting!)
The icing was delicious and the sprinkled decorations fun. BUT I think I'm going to paint mine. Yep. I'm going to give them a try today. I may not get to the painting until tomorrow because the dough needs to live in the fridge for a while before you can even roll it out. But once it's rolled, I think yolk painting will be my thing.
The Mariners are playing an afternoon game today. And I have a not-too-long list of around the house todos. And, happily, no reason to leave said house. The numbers are up again.
