Randomly random stuff
Oct. 27th, 2021 09:11 amIt's been a while since I've had a phone that charged wirelessly and I must say, it is more than just a little handy. I dug out an old wireless charger. I had, apparently, glued a magnet to its base which confused me initially until later when I reached for my yarn needle to hide the end of my crochet yarn and remembered that I glued that magnet there to hold my needle!! Aren't I the clever one!
Cats can have the same hidey hole for years and one day abandon it for another one. They change long standing routines for new ones on a whim or not. But never have I seen a cat change personalities as drastically as Biggie. From the time he first got here at 5 months old, he was the playful smart one and The Smalls was the cuddler, lap cat. After The Smalls died, Biggie really just became more Biggie. He'd let you pick him up but only for 10 seconds and then he wanted down. He crawl across your lap, but never land there. He'd accept head scrunchies but fairly quickly move on. Cuddle? NFW.
Since his flying leap, he's changed his mind. He's up for cuddling 24/7. You make a lap and he's in it. If you get up from the chair, he stays there until you come back and make his lap again. At night, when he would sometimes sleep with me, he'd mold his back along my side. Now he always sleeps with me and puts his head on my shoulder or works around so that his body is under my hand in case I want to give him a rub.
I tried over and over again to get him to eat wet cat food - totally uncessessfully. Now it's his fav and he only eats the hard kibble when all the wet food is gone.
It's like having a whole new cat without even missing the old cat.
Just now he's still in bed. His head is on the pillow. He's adorable.
I may make more cake. I have one slice left but a fair amount of that great icing leftover.
The last cake I made (blue white cake) I tried various storage methods. All worked nicely. Leaving it covered on the counter did great. Leaving it in the fridge was fine but probably not needed. The frozen slices worked particularly well. They thawed rapidly and tasted very fresh.
I might try upside down cupcakes with frosting all over - like tiny one layer cakes. They would be easier to freeze/keep.
And I need more cookies. I have fewer than half a dozen in the freezer. And there's a butter pecan cookie I want to try.
So there will be baking today. But, first I need to go to the grocery store. I have an Amazon return and I'm out of Amazon orange juice. I just read on Twitter that a guy got shot dead in the parking lot across the street from the Amazon Fresh store last night. Lovely. That parking lot is the drug mall for this part of the city. I feel badly for the legit businesses around there and I wish the city would do something but I'm sure not holding my breath. The Amazon Fresh store has parking under it so you never even see the outside. So at least I can get my groceries without worrying about stray bullets.
Two more random things.
1. Mayim bialik is doing a fabulous job as the host of Jeopardy. She's no Alex Trebek. She's better, fresher, and faster on her feet. I thought she was going to be a token female and thought she would bomb. I never in a million years thought she'd be good. And she's is just so good. I have taken to watching Jeopardy while on the treadmill in the mornings. So I'm generally a day or two behind real life and twitter generally tells me what happens ahead of watching which is fine. I enjoy it anyway. Especially now.
2. One of my LJ friends recently posted (in a locked entry but said it was ok for me to steal it) the following with which I agree 1000% and could not say it better:
"Also, to all my LJ friends: I love sharing my life with you and reading about yours, but please do not feel compelled to write a comment just to comment. I'm sure I've said it before but I think it bears repeating - A simple "like" is just fine for me if you don't have anything to say but you want to be supportive :) And also absolutely do not feel bad if you don't read all of my entries. This is a no-pressure zone."
