One of the best things about living in an urban environment are traffic cams. I want to go up Jackson to 23rd to the Amazon Fresh store. And, maybe even across 23rd to Ezell's and get some fried chicken and fried okra. I can see the first road from my terrace. It looks a little dicey right now. BUT Jackson has 3 cams and they all show clear sailing right up to the store.

Amazon Prime no longer includes free delivery. Their formerly free delivery windows are $5 now. I'd be ok with that if their inventory was better but their inventory sucks. So while it would be ok in a pinch, I think I'm going to take the car and drive. But, I think I'll wait a few hours before I try it. It's not supposed to get above freezing today but the sun is supposed to come out so between that and heat from car tires, it should be fine. Plus, the grocery's parking is underground.

If it's too dicey, I'll skip the chicken/okra and just come home.

And that's about it for plans. I might make more cookies. Maybe.

Biggie and I did change his necktie.

Soooo turns out I mentally photoshopped those traffic cams to have less snow than they actually did. Funny how I wanna can fix the facts. The first 3 blocks were very dicey and I actually did skid a little coming home. I was really surprised at how much snow there is everywhere. Driving was the best bet. Walking is a mess since very few sidewalks are shoveled. (In fairness, snow shovels are not exactly ubiquitous around here.

Just as I got to the store, I realized I had forgotten to bring the thing I needed to Amazon return. Shit. Oh well. It's fine. I have until the end of January and it's only a $10 thing anyway. The store had massive inventory holes but everything I wanted. PLUS, they had that Thai beef salad again. That stuff is excellent. I got a bunch this time.

I do love shopping at that store. The staff is so nice and the smart carts are just so easy. They 'read' the items as you put them in the cart and keep a running tally as you go. When you are done, you just roll over this one section of floor and Bam. All checked out and paid up and done. Easy peasy.

There have been snow flurries all morning. And it was coming down while I was driving which is sooooo pretty but also a bit distracting.

The flakes entertain Biggie fairly well, though.

I skipped the chicken place because I didn't want to push it and Thai beef to eat. I'll have some delivered it it tuns out I really need it. I think I'm in for a while now.

I wanted a deep plastic bowl for my hand mixer for my ginger cookies. But, Goodwill is still closed and I'm not going anywhere anyway.

Still... I wanted to do the ginger cookies again to see if I could replicate the perfectness of last time. I did not and I'm glad! I thought that the dough looked a little less firm than last time but I wasn't sure until I rolled them out. Yep. It needed maybe a quarter cup more. I'm glad because I now feel like I can recognize and adjust appropriately when it happens again.

These are the very best. I frosted the last ones but I wanted to have a batch without so I could test storage again. I put the frosted ones in the cookie jar and they got soft.

So this batch will be divided 5 ways for testing purposes.

1. freezer
2. air tight container
3. plate on counter
4. cookie jar (loosely fit lid)
5. my mouth

Right now they are perfectly crunchy. Let's see how they fair in 24 hours.

I think I'm buying a new recliner. When I bought this one, last Summer, I also found one in the Lazy Boy store that I really liked. I did not pursue it because at that time, I wanted immediate ass satisfaction and they were saying 8 to 9 months.

I have a cheap Amazon one that looks nice but is really uncomfortable and is the only visitor chair in the living room so it needs to be comfortable. Plus, it would be nice to have one that I could swap with this one now and again.

But, I'm not going back into that store. I could order one on line but I have questions and need a sales rep. So I sent an email to the store explaining that I wanted to buy the chair but wanted to do it via email - not in person and not on the phone.

I got a nice email this morning apologizing for the snow delay and asking how she could help. So now we're on. The main questions now is cover and payment options. If I can pay some down and the rest on arrival, I'll go ahead and order now. If they want full payment and then delivery in a year, that will take some considering.
