Even my cute never-late doctor was late this morning. BUT the first thing out of his mouth was a profound apology for being late. So, of course, I forgave him instantly. It was a good session. He's such a good listener.

He gave me cough pills. We discussed what 'as needed' means and turns out I was right and Dr. Asshat was wrong. So I'll be using a lot less of that that Combivent. Probably just once a day on good days - just before I go to the pool.

He gave me cough pills to take as needed and we discussed what that 'as needed' is, too. I probably won't be taking too many of those either. (By the way, this house is becoming a pharmacy... with a half door and a white coat, I could set up shop.) I told him about the voice issues - mildly hoarse to no voice and, honestly, didn't really need to since today was pretty much a very hoarse day (thank you, voice, for helping me out there). He said that it was probably related to the cough.

But he, like Dr. Asshat, says the muscle cramps aren't related to anything. I think they are both wrong. But, I'll play along with the nice dr. The foot cramps are the worst. They fuck up my night's sleep and my swimming - my two sacred areas! Fortunately the hand cramps rarely interfere with knitting.

He wants an ultrasound of my legs. A week from Monday. And he wanted blood. So I dropped in on the lab. I got a really nice young girl and apologized in advance. I have the world's tiniest veins that are also impossible to find and get to. She was good and patient and got it on the second try. But, even more impressively, left NO bruises. I don't even remember the last time I escaped without black and blue arms.

Oh and I asked him, since I'm not allergic to anything, did I have to go back to Dr. Asshat the allergist. He allowed as how he was more than just allergy and I said that I just was not comfortable with him or his staff. He said to come back to see him (Nice doctor) in a month and we'd discuss. Ok with me.

It was a good, informative visit. I feel more in charge of me and able to control what makes me feel fine. And way less like an ill person. And, for the first time since last October, I have NO doctor's appointments for a whole month!!! (I'm stretching it because of the ultra sound but hey, I make the rules.)

Yeah.

Swimming today. No class but I think I'll go in about noon.

Foot cramps? Have you tried adding some bananas into your diet (for the potassium), and/or foot strengthening exercises? Foot cramps during swimming aren't uncommon and most of them are because of a lack of strength in the foot and/or lack of potassium.

There is an easy way to find out if the drugs might be causing the cramps - look them up on rx.com or a similar site, and see what the side effects are. It might mention cramps outright, or it may mention lower K levels. Either way...

In addition to bananas, a warm compress may also help. Wearing a scuba diver's sock or bootie would keep your feet warm in the pool.
