Thinking about packing in days of old, I remembered one time when my Ninja packing bit me in the ass...

One of my previous IBM managers asked me to come back to Rochester to give a talk to a group of engineers. I think it was about how to translate engineer-ese into real people speak. I was in California at the time and the plan was to fly in, spend the night, get up, talk, go home.

So my packing skills hit high gear but I still had to dress up. While getting dressed that morning in the hotel room, my shoes felt funny. Upon investigation, I realized that I had packed two left shoes. Medium heeled pumps. UGH. My talk was at 9. No time or place to shop so I crammed my feet into them and hoped none of the engineers would notice.

After my talk, I dropped by the office of my former admin to say hi and ask she walked me to my rental car she remarked "Susan, you do know you have on one blue shoe and one black one, right???"

wow that is a good one.

I went on a 5 day camping trip with only the underwear I was wearing. I forgot to pack any spares. I washed them each night when I showered and hand to hang them in the tent and hope they would dry so I could put them on in the morning.

my first ever camping trip I didn't pack food. I assumed there was a store or restaurant near by, LOL.

A girl I worked with once did the same thing, wore one black shoe and one navy blue one to work. Weird thing was she didn't realize it until mid-afternoon. The heels were completely different too.

That sounds just like something I would do! As to ninja packing skills, I remember a trip where I had a tiny checked bag and a messenger bag I took on the plane and my boss asked, "If you have the checked bag, what's in the messenger bag? Why not just your purse?" (Pre-laptop days.)

"Oh, I have my purse, a full change of clothes, a copy of this month's Forbes and this month's Cosmo."

"You have the weirdest reading list of any woman I know."

I was just happy I had clean clothes in case my little suitcase went awol. The only way I avoided the black/blue two left shoes was the fact that I had a pair of black flats I wore pretty much 24/7.

Oh, and on the download/upload I mentioned earlier, apparently by saying out loud that I was too lazy to do it, I shamed myself into finding the time to get it done.
