Fun

The baseball game was great. Well, actually, the baseball, itself was good - we lost, of course, but it was still not a terrible game. I noticed that there was a guy named Betancourt on the roster and I had never heard that name before. When he came up to bat, they flashed his whole name and face on the game board... Yuniesky Betancourt. I had barely finished my 'who in the hell is Yuniesky Betancourt and what kind of name is Yuniesky???' when he hit a nice long drive and proceeded to haul ass and end up on third base! That Yuniesky dude can run! Then the board said it was his first major league hit. Sweet.

And that's why I do not generally like to actually go to baseball games. It's just too hard to get the info I need to really enjoy the game. I'm lazy. I like to be force fed the data by the commentators. And how in the hell can I mock their annoying ways when I am in the stands and can't hear them?

Plus there are way too many distractions. Even without the Knit 'n Pitch, there are people walking all around with outfits I need to check out and hairdo's I need to figure out and bags that I need to envy and food and smells and conversations to eavesdrop on. Who in the heck can focus on baseball??

But, the Knit 'n Pitch part was worth it. They did a fabulous job. There are probably 8 or 9 yarn shops in town and they were all there. With tables of special stuff and information and fun, friendly people. They gave away stuff and I got a t-shirt and everyone was so nice and friendly. And nearly everyone was knitting or crocheting something. The announcer said there were more than 1,500 people who bought the special knitter tickets.

Some knitting lady threw out the first pitch and they used a ball of yarn! It was hilarious. The Mariner Moose had yarn all up in his antlers. They really did it right. They kept saying it was the first annual. I'm absolutely going next year. This shot was during batting practice...

And [livejournal.com profile] kjaz, this one is for you... there were not a lot of manly knitters but there were some!

I saw a bit this morning about a guy who has rigged up Google Maps for Treo. So I went to find it. It's one of those 'I built this for myself but thought if anyone else is interested...' It's a little rough around the installing edges. And he is very clear on it's being built and tested for Treo 650 and my Treo is of the 600 variety. But, what the heck. I've got a current backup so I gave it a whirl.

Bing, Bam, I'm in! I plugged in the zip code of the store I plan on scoping out after work and now I have that baby mapped out on my Treo! And I can walk around the map and zoom and to here to there... very excellent. (And, when I say walk, I mean walk - there's a little tiny guy who does walk wherever I send him on my screen... he's cracking me up.)

I posted a comment on his web page and sent him a very modest PayPal donation. He sent me some updated code and asked me to try a few things. I did. Works even better. This is cool.

In the olden days, I had an IPAQ with Pocket Streets which was pretty darned excellent for its time. So except for little walker guy, this is kind of deja vu with better maps.

Here's little walker guy in the middle of I-93!

If you are in Seattle or close by and are considering being on the streets this afternoon - oh say from about 2ish to about 4ish, be.ware.

I drove my car in to work today. And I'm hitting the streets this aft with errands to run. And I am a terror on the streets. Between my advanced age, my general lack of focus and the fact that I have probably driven maybe 700 miles in the last 12 months - total... I am your worst nightmare behind the wheel. (Both [livejournal.com profile] rsc and [livejournal.com profile] jwg are reading this thinking "she could have mentioned this before she picked us up... at this point, it's a bit redundant.")

So, be careful out there, k?

I'm off to Redmond's Ben Franklin and Crossroad's Michael's and JoAnn's. I need a better zipper foot and cording to make piping for the window valance. And if I can find some soft acrylic in good colors, I might just acquire some new teddy bear ingredients. Then it's on to the grocery store for just a handful of things. Then home.
