My day is full and it's only 9:30.  I have now done this job for nearly 15 months and I still believe that weekends should be and feel really no different than week days.  I'm in the same place.  I wear the same clothes. I don't see the same people.  Yeah, the chances of having a conference call is slim but I have whole weekdays without conference calls.  And yeah, the phone is likely not even going to ring where it might during the week.

But, happily, Saturdays and Sundays still hold the cache that weekends always have.  I have probably 8 hours of work to do today.  I could wait until Monday but I love that I can knock it all out this weekend and start with a clean slate on Monday.

Sometimes I am just knocked out by how very lucky I am to have found this gig.

Before I even start work, however, I am going out to do those errands I was going to do yesterday.  I'm going to do them first.

Here I go.  I'm going to peel into McDonald's first - I need a sausage biscuit.

My father loved nothing more than gathering a group of people - most often the family - and planning a vacation, trip and/or even a weekend.  He took event planning to a new level.  There were tote bags, and matches and napkins... Every event had a name.

SCVBFWA - was a cumbersome acronym but looked nice on large Lands End canvas bags.  (Super Celebration of Virginia and Bill's Fortieth Wedding Anniversary)

FASNYC - (I might have that one a little off) - Fun and *(I forget what the S stood for) in New York City - this was in the early 70's and we each got a gummed pad (like a note pad) of 25 virgin $1.00 bills.  Plus the napkins and the matches.

I don't even remember the others - there were dozens.  Each with napkins and matches and whatever else struck Daddy's fancy.

Today, in the mail, from my sister-in-law comes a valentine.  In the valentine is a cocktail napkin.  She notes that it's "for the re-wedding".  Their 10th wedding anniversary is Wednesday and they are gathering all the kids (her son and my brother's two sons from his first marriage and their wives) and her brothers and their wives.  I was invited in a very kind way (he told me that my sister would not be there and that neither of them would be offended if I didn't come but they wanted me to know I was welcome).

And the celebration has a name...  Daddy would be so proud he would just be beside himself.

I've had my cpu under my desk now since forever.  Well, since the house re-do anyway.  It's not handy but it does have eye appeal cause you can't see it.

Now my brother is proposing a box with a clear side... I'm thinking of housing the next one on top.  Easy access.  Wonder if I can make it look not sucky.  Hmmmm

I need to rethink desk arrangement anyway.  The phone definitely needs to be moved.  hmmmm.

My brother and I have a very stereotypical approach to computing.  I like the girl bits and he likes the boy bits.

My eyes glass over when he talks networking or processors or RAID.  I want to know what the case looks like, what kind of monitor I'll get and let's make sure the video is souped up to the max.  Oh and yeah, I'm sure 12 USB ports sounds like plenty to you.  It's my minimum.  Gimme a 4 port bay, too, plz.

He's all over the server stuff, but if I happen to slip ftp or telnet into the conversation, I've lost him entirely.  He could make a web page if his other choice was becoming a prisoner of war but he'd give it some thought first.

We're a good match.  We're putting together a computer for me that is so much overkill it's nearly embarrassing.  But I love it already and it's not even here yet.

I do need to give some thought to what to do with this one. It's perfectly functional and not nearly ready for retirement.  There's an outfit here in town that provides tech support to non profit agencies. I may contact them and see if they want it.

I've done a bunch of work work today and three loads of laundry and now I think I'm going to do a little TiVo clean up.
