susandennis: (workout)

Turns out the dentist office is ore of a 60 minute walk from here than the 30 minutes I had guessed.  This realization hit me at the 30 minute mark at which time I also realized I had miscalculated my course and faced a series of very steep hills.  Hauling ass up hill...  not that much fun, actually.  That treadmill will seem like child's play after this morning.

Also, note to self, do NOT, I repeat do NOT wear your stupid Crocs for something like this!  New Croc limit is ONLY for walking 30 minutes or less and they had better be easy minutes.

I have to say that having teeth impressions made is not all that much fun.   It's way way way better than anything else I've ever had done in a dental chair but it is uggy and messy and just not that much fun.  I know part of it is because no one ever tells me what is going to happen.  I think I would feel far less anxious if people would just explain!

"I'm going to put some thick gross mud like stuff all around your teeth and then I'm going to jam this metal mold full of the stuff down onto your bottom teeth and hold it here for oh, I don't know, maybe a minute or more and then pull it off.  Then we'll repeat with the upper teeth and then we'll clean up the mess all over your face and chest and give you some mouthwash to get the icky taste out of your mouth and we'll be done!"

How hard would that have been to explain????  Geesh.  I wonder if I'm going to get two mouth guards ...  I could have asked, but didn't.  I go back a week from Monday to get it/them.

The receptionist lady said she would submit the bill to my insurance.  I asked her if she wanted me to pay for it all now since I was pretty sure the insurance company was going to laugh but she said no.  She did say that it was likely they would not pay for more than half if they paid any so I paid half.  I know the insurance company will want a $50 deductible from Wednesday's visit anyway so I don't think I'm over paying anything.  It is nice of them, however, to be so generous about it all.

I also remembered to get a prescription for the ethedent toothpaste.  I used it way back last time I went to the dentist and it really did help with sensitivity.  It's a bit pricey but I now know it's worth it.  I picked up a tube on the way home and had the dentist fax in the prescription with refills to my online pharmacy.

And then I walked home.

I had planned to stop in several places downtown but most weren't open yet.  I perused the new grocery store which is in the middle of town in the old Kresge building.  They have done a lovely job with it.   I thought I'd pop into Ross and see if they had anything interesting on sale but they weren't open yet.  I thought I'd pop into the big library and see what books they have on CD that I might have missed in their data base, but they weren't open yet.  Several other possibilities weren't open yet either so I ended up back home by 10.

It is a lovely morning out.  I learned quickly that if I meandered around the wind blocking buildings, I had a beautiful breeze for the whole walk.  Perfect weather actually.

My project manager does not expect much, if any, work for me today.  I could poll some of the other project managers but I really don't like working with any of them so asking for it is kind of silly.  I have budgeted for lean times money wize and I think I'll just find my own entertainment and enjoy the time off.

Which brings me back to the whole tooth thing.  I have been reading about teeth grinding and jaw clinching and most of what I'm reading indicates that the leading cause is stress.  I cannot imagine anyone anywhere who has less stress in their life than I do.  Wonder why I do it.

When I was little my father traveled a lot - a whole lot.  He was often home on weekends but when he was not - a big trip, he'd often bring us home a trinket or treasure.  One of the very very very best most  coveted trip gifts was a Surprise Ball.  I remember being willing to sell my soul for one of those suckers.  Once, when I was old enough to have my own allowance and buy my own presents, I bought Daddy a Surprise Ball for some occasion or another.  It was bright yellow with a smiley face drawn in black.

I remember it well because he never did open it.  He kept it on his dresser for years and years and years and years.  It was there when he died.

I never hear or see or think about a Surprise Ball without remembering him in the most wonderful way.

Today's remembrance is thanks to not martha.
