This is why I love living in a condo
Sep. 28th, 2011 02:01 pmEvery two years, the building manager brings some dudes around to clean out the dryer vent. They got here just now and discovered the vent had fallen off the connection. I thought it had been awfully dusty lately. They say after they finish cleaning it out, they will reattach it.
My dryer is on top of the washer in a closet with about 5" of clearance on one side and 1" on the other. I have no clue how they are going to fix this but I am so glad that they are and I don't have to worry about it.
On alternate years, he brings around chimney sweeps.
Nice.
I have a good swim class today. It was a shallow end seniors class - aka bobbing boobies. Many of the participants are giants sized women with massive breasts that just bob on the water. It's hilarious. There were three guys there today but only one had giant boobs.
This was the first shallow class I'd taken wearing shoes and it does make it a much different and better workout. I still like the deep water better.
I also think I figured out a way to fix at least a couple of my swim suits so that they don't have empty tents where the giant boobs I don't have should go.
Who knew swimming was all about boob talk???!
The really really nice lady at the counter when you first get to the pool - the one who takes your money and answers all your questions - is named Buchanan. I think that's a cool name.
Oh, the dryer is fixed! wow. I did not see how they did it cause I was typing this but it's all done now and they have gone.
Very nice.
Now I have to get back to work. I'm hoping I can get two massive bits completed today. But, I am not working past 4. I'm just not. The work on this new project is biting my ass and I need a break from it.

Crap on a stick
Sep. 28th, 2011 08:38 pmThe hard drive on my work laptop gave up the ghost tonight. It's so dead. It's not even trying.
Looks like tomorrow morning it will be off to the boss's office for a new machine or drive and a rebuild from scratch. Sigh.
It could be worse. I pay for offline backup out of my own pocket (it's already saved my butt once and now looks like it's going to do it again). One project is dormant until monday and the other work can be easily picked up by a team member who's more up to speed than I am.
Actually, it looks like besides the PIA factor, they biggest sacrifice might be my swim class tomorrow.
It helps so much that so little of my work these days relies on any client software. So there is little tied right to my computer which makes the PIA factor far less of a factor than it used to be.
I'm going to pack my swimming stuff into the car, just in case.

Sep. 28th, 2011 09:11 pmMy boss's IT guy just called (really really nice of him). I had sent him a note explaining the problem and telling him I'd be in at 9 to see what we could do. He agreed that was the thing to do but said he would not be in until 11 tomorrow so the swim class is toast. Thankgoodness he called or I would have gone in and then just been picking my nose there with nothing to do but wait for 2 hours.
The pool is open early for laps so I think that's what I'll do. I think I'll just try out my free lance with music idea tomorrow morning and then come home and then go to the office.
