At night, before I go to bed, I open the door to the terrace. In the morning, first thing, I close it. This morning, I got my coffee and took it back to bed where I was happily computing when Betty all of a sudden RAN into the bedroom and POUNDED onto the bed and then run around and ran out and then back and then I saw it... a bird. In the house....

I got up and opened the door again so the bird could fly out. But, he/she didn't make it. The next think I knew, Betty was chewing on the carcass here in the bedroom! I tried to get her to drop it and ended up just chasing her to the kitchen - she would not let go. UGH. And EWWW.

Now she's back here in the bedroom resting.

I'm so sorry little bird. The city is a mean place. And, Betty - EWWW.

Happy Tuesday!

Yep, Betty left a few feathers on the kitchen floor. Ugh. But, then, she had the nerve to beg for more breakfast!! I've now been in the kitchen twice since the massacre and both times she follows me in and loudly asks for food. WTF???

Dear Betty,

One breakfast a day is plenty even on the days when you don't eat birds!!

Today is swim class at noon. The pools are closed on Thursday and Friday. So today and tomorrow are it until Saturday.

We've had lots of wind and rain here yesterday and today. As [livejournal.com profile] machupicchu points out, it's the kind of rain that you see when Seattle is portrayed in movies and TV - real downpour - not the kind of rain we really get around here. Yesterday we broke longstanding records for total rainfall. Makes me more than happy to here on the 4th floor - high an dry.

So during all the years that Ichiro played in Seattle, there was this whacky woman who sat on the first row in the outfield and kept track of his hits. She had a giant sign with replaceable numbers and whenever he got a hit, she would increment the number right then. The sign was neon green with black numbers. You couldn't miss it. It became iconic and so did she. She tweeted as ichimeterlady.

I found a picture!

At the end of his last game before he went to the Yankees, he went over and doffed his cap to her which was cool.

Today she just tweeted that she nearly passed out when she got a packaged from Ichiro today. He sent her a pair of shoes and a bat - autographed. And this note which I just love:

What a classy guy.

Pool time!

I've been trying to get with the new friends page program. If that's the way it will be, might as well learn to live with it. I'm not sure I'm making progress but I'm trying.

Before I had to buy my dishwasher for me for Christmas, I had already ordered a fun treat. I didn't cancel and it came today and I love it. The colored blocks are all individual so you can arrange it any way you like and then rearrange it. It was fun in the daylight but now that its getting darker it's very amazingly cool looking! Quite a bit of fun for $40. Here are a couple of iterations:

And speaking of the new dishwasher - the el cheapo GE... While I hate to speak ill of my beloved and really expensive dishwasher drawers, this new sucker knows how to clean dishes!!! I am not rinsing off a thing so I can see how much crud it will handle and so far sparkling, squeaky clean... every single one. When you had a little scrap of food on a dish for the drawer, it would just hang in the bottom of the drawer until you dug in and fished it out. gross. And dishes got kind of clean - never company clean. Of course, since I never have company it wasn't a biggie but it is nice to have such clean dishes so easily.

Neighbor Ann dropped by and the message about the magazines was received and understood and all is cool. Yeah!!! Plus she invited me to Christmas dinner again, I've had Christmas dinner with them for the past couple of years - their son and his wife (who makes cookies and brings me some every year) are there and Ron - Ann's husband and chef - makes a wonderful wonderfully delicious meal so fun.

---

The Bird Killer, who, when I call her that, just stares at me like 'yeah? whaddya want'... is showing no remorse. I still can't believe she did that. It's like Mehlia Obama, clubbing a seal. I did think about what if that bird had flown in when Travis lived here. I think he would have gone apeshit - the feline equivalent of Prissy from Gone with the Wind. But, I'm guessing he would have invited the bird to play, not pulled out the salt and pepper and strapped on the napkin.

The Yahoo Sports guy wrote a nice little piece about Ichiro and the Ichimeter lady. My report was rather replete with not-quite-rights. But still I think it's the coolest baseball story to come from the Mariners in a long time.
