My credit union has been perfect since forever. Until lately. Now, they are screwing with me. It's little stuff, but it's making me cranky.

For years and years, I could just drop a check into the mailbox on my corner and it would show up as a deposit in my credit union account the next day. Without fail. Lately, the same process now takes three days or four. I used to be able to drop a check in the box on Saturday morning and it would be in the account on Monday afternoon. Sometimes Tuesday but usually Monday.

Saturday I dropped a check for $7,000 into the box and the sucker was MIA until Wednesday afternoon. And, even now, it's not 'available'. I tried to transfer it to savings and the transfer wouldn't work and then I noticed that I have $7,084 in my checking account and $84 'available'. What kind of shit is this???

Oh and now they have one of those incident reporting systems. Instead of sending an email with a question and getting a quick answer back. Now it appears I have an incident ticket which probably means my answer will come IML* if I'm lucky.

It's probably normal banking but I've been living in a faux banking world with my perfect credit union. I don't like getting jerked back into reality.

[livejournal.com profile] pheon, have you noticed a degradation in service or are they just picking on me?

And...

So after swapping numerous emails with the credit union, I've learned that deposits over $5,000 are held for 7 days and there isn't a thing in the world I can do about it. Doesn't matter how much money I have in my accounts. Doesn't matter if it's deposited in person, in the mail or via an ATM - for 7 days, I have no access to that money. Honestly, I think this sucks. As a practical matter, it makes no difference to me. But the principle bites the big one in my book.

Last night I went to McDonalds and got one of their adult happy meals with the step counter. I've always liked their salads (and most everything else. I like McDonalds.) but the step counter is really keeping me amused today. It's 11:30 and I've now clocked 2,570 steps today.

I finished up the butler book about Diana. I did finally get weary of him - about the time I got to the end so it worked out fine. The library sent me email that I now have three books waiting. A book on marketing that Jim Carson mentioned not long ago, a book of afghan patters and a novel. I'm stopping there on my way home to pick up my nice little bundle.

I read in the paper this morning that Microsoft is going to discontinue paying for bus passes for contractors. That gravy train is pulling into the station. Oh well, it was nice while it lasted. As a contractor, Microsoft is still a pretty spectacular place to work. Heck, as an employee it was pretty good, too. There are lots of nice, free benefits. I can't complain.

My current pass expires at the same time as my contract. So that kind of works out anyway.

So I stand in line for 20 minutes at the library to get my books on hold. The guy refuses to use my library card number and says he has to have the physical card. Fortunately, I still had it in my pocket. The old library did not have this policy so I never needed to carry the card.

I dig the card out and he goes off to get my books. He comes back with no books. He says they aren't there. And, yes, the computer says they are and says that if I don't pick them up by next Tuesday they will put them back into circulation.

"But, I can't pick them up if they aren't here, can I?"

"No, you'll just have to come back every day and check."

"Er... ok, let's say I do that. Do you think they will be here by next Tuesday?"

"Hard to say."

"If they aren't here by then, what happens?"

"You'll have to put them on hold again. You could go to another library. Or you could just check out something we have here."

I'll bet he's working his way up to a job at my credit union...

Oh and then I get home and turn on the game to discover the Mariners are already 4 runs back in the 1st inning.

Whoever is in charge of my karma... I AM SO SORRY THAT I PISSED YOU OFF. I SWEAR I'LL NEVER DO IT AGAIN!
