Day 96

25 mins at 3.0 on the treadmill and 6 mins on the rowing machine.  That rowing machine is working parts of me that haven't been worked in a while, if ever.  It's always good to sit down after walking and my body is really grateful until I strap my feet in and pick up the 'oars' and then it's 'WTF???'  At 2 minutes and 30 seconds I was wiped out but I changed the subject in my brain and soldiered on and the next thing I knew it was 6 minutes.  Nice.  And sweaty.

The Tuesday morning gym crowd was a little smaller than Monday but not much.  Still no Yakity Guy.  Jazz Guy is there a fair bit BUT he's now doing his thing in the area behind me so I don't see him.  I see the stair steppers and folks using the nautilus machines (they aren't Nautilus but I don't know what else to call them now).

I got my sticker.  I'm good for today.  Whew.

We are now the proud owners and users of The Furminator...

It arrived today and so we gave it a trial run.  Betty now has a Mini Me...  (The chapstick is for perspective).

Yes, I know there are people who spin yarn out of pet fur. I am not one of those people but it does look like it would take about 2 Furminations to get enough yarn for a teddy bear!

I really like good rice.  Rice maker rice.  I have a great rice maker and it makes great rice.  BUT it takes an hour.  So a while back, I made the max and then put the leftovers into single serving glass dishes.  And I stuck them in the freezer.

When time to eat... I dribble a little water and loosely cover and nuke - about 2-3 minutes until it steams.  And that left over, frozen then nuked rice is absolutely as delicious as when it first comes out of the cooker.

Tonight I had frozen breaded shrimp which came out perfectly in my new Infrawave toaster oven and frozen nuked rice with seaweed.  Yum.  Seriously.  Yum.  And fast and easy.

The older I get the more Mom Moments I have.  But no matter how many I have, each one is a shock.  My Mom Moments are when I do or say or make a sound that was hers.  Sometimes when I clear my throat, I sound just like she did clearing hers.  Or I'll use a phrase that I never do but she always did.  Or I'll stand the way she used to stand.

When I was in my early 30's in the early 80's I was on TV a lot in Charlotte, NC.  My job had me routinely on news and local talk shows.  During this time, Mom and Daddy moved to a small town in western North Carolina that got the Charlotte TV stations so they could finally tune in. When I got home from work one night shortly after they had settled in, the phone was ringing and it was Mom:

"I saw you on that noon show today and it was like looking at myself 20 years ago!! You sound like me, you look like I did and you use the same gestures!!  It was freaky!!!"

Just now, I was in the hallway here watching the worker guys pull more junk out of the unit down the hall and recognized that my hands were on my hips and my feet apart in a way that she used to stand while waiting for us to come receive our punishment for whatever horrible thing we had done.

It is freaky.
